No children under the age of 5 will be allowed to climb at CityROCK. No exceptions will be made.

CityROCK provides ongoing, year-round programs designed for kids who are ready to take the next step in their climbing. Our teams build on both the physical and mental challenges climbing entails. Our curriculum focus on advancing their technical as well as tactical skills, and improving their physical condition while maintaining a cooperative environment fuelled by the support of fellow team members. Kids are placed in one of five teams depending on their skills and age after an assessment with one of our Coaches. The teams include: B Squad, G squad J Squad, T Squad and Z squad. All candidates receive a free 30-minute assessment and free trial session with their relevant squad.

Cost for B and G Squad are R 660 per kid for 8, 1.5 hour sessions per month Cost for J,T and Z squads are R880 per kid for 8, 2 hour sessions per month. Excludes gear rental and day pass/monthly membership. The 8 sessions may be attended in succession or twice a week in the dedicated sessions per team.

 

B SQUAD SESSIONS:

The B squad sessions are designed for younger children who have already developed a passion for the sport. Participation in these squad’s aids in their social development, through this unique sporting experience the children learn, teachable spirit, confidence, accountability, pride, humility, and selflessness while having lots of climbing fun. The B Squad program emphasizes establishing a solid foundation of Technique lessons are then reinforced with climbing drills, basic footwork, body positions, dynamic motion and wall climbing games.

Sessions are available Mondays and Tuesdays 3- 4:30pm or Wednesdays 5-6:30pm.

Pre-req: Kids must have passed their Top Rope belay test and climbing grades 0 -17, aged 5+.

 

G SQUAD GROUP SESSIONS:

Our G squad is a step up from the B squad .This is the next step for casual kid climbers who have a strong desire to improve, and are ready to start working hard! In this program, kids hone skills or learn them if they are newer to the sport of climbing. Focus is on building self-confidence and rock climbing skills through hard work and team support. Coaches emphasize the fundamentals of climbing and fitness in a fun and relaxed environment. The G Squad program emphasizes establishing a solid foundation of basic cross-training conditioning, as well as strength drills such as push-ups, pull-ups and core exercises and focusing on technique, balance and movement.

Sessions are available Mondays and Tuesdays 3-4:30pm or Wednesdays 5-6:30pm.

Pre-req: Kids must have passed their Top Rope belay test and climbing grades 15 -21, aged 5+.

 

J SQUAD GROUP SESSIONS:

Our J squad is the next step for climbers who want to focus on training for competitions and personal climbing goals. Team workouts focus on balance, movement, strength training, communication, and mental strategy. Our curriculum covers everything from footwork and body positions to dynamic motion, projecting and technique. Practices will focus on conditioning workout involving a series of push, pull and core exercises, cross-training strength drills and harder climbing workouts that build on the techniques they have learned.

 

Sessions are available Mondays and Tuesdays 4-6 pm or Wednesdays 5-7 pm.

Pre-req: Kids must have passed their Top Rope belay test and climbing grades 17 -21, aged 11+.

 

T SQUAD GROUP SESSIONS:

T squad is focused on training for competitions and personal climbing goals. In this program, kids will learn a technique or skill, and then will participate in climbing drills that help them understand and retain the knowledge. Climbing at this level presents many new challenges for the climbers and will teach them to conquer through perseverance and tenacity. Practices will often include a short workout involving a series of push, pull and core exercises and harder climbing workouts that build on the techniques they have learned.

Sessions are available Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7pm or Wednesdays 3-5pm.

Pre-req: Kids must have passed their Lead belay test and climbing grades 21 -25, aged 13+.

 

Z SQUAD GROUP SESSIONS:

The Z squad is focused on training for competitions and personal climbing goals. Coaches emphasize the fundamentals of lead climbing skills, advanced technique, fitness training, and mental preparation. Z squad members join upon coaches’ invitation.

Sessions are available Tuesdays and Thursdays 5-7pm or Wednesdays 3-5pm.

Pre-req: Kids must have passed their Lead belay test and climbing grades 25+, aged 13+.
